Falling leaves

This year, we were really lucky to have a long, warm autumn with beautiful weather and beautiful colours. Every autumn, I try to gather colourful fallen leaves in every possible shape and size. With the kids, we normally preserve them and create animals or trees using the leaves. This year, I tried a different technique and painted the silhouettes of the leaves on canvas.

I made 4 of them and decorated a wall with this series. The method is not difficult, but you need to dedicate enough time to drying and I recommend to make a prototype to see how your paints react. First, I wanted to apply only 2 layers of paint, but later decided to apply decoupage glue between the 2 layers.

What you will need:
- 1 canvas
- leaf with a nice silhouette - dry or fresh
- acrylic paint
- paint spray
- decoupage glue (optional)

How to prepare:

1. Paint the canvas with a base colour - any combination is possible according to your homw style
This will be the colour of the leaf
2. Let it dry completely
3. Apply one layer of decoupage glue (optional)
4. Put the leaf on the canvas in the desired layout
5. Spray the other colour around and on the leaf. You can paint the whole canvas or - like me - apply only a layer of "mist"
6. Remove the leaf carefully and let the paint dry completely
7. You might apply a final layel of varnish if you wish.
